Himalayan Salt Sauna in Dedham: What It Is and What to Expect
08/17/16
One of the private saunas at Fire and Ice Spa in Dedham is a dry sauna lined with blocks of pink Himalayan salt. Here is what makes it different.
What is a Himalayan salt sauna?
It is a dry, Finnish-style sauna — hot air with low humidity — with walls built from natural pink salt blocks. The warm color of the salt gives the room a calm, cozy feel.
How does it feel?
The heat is dry and steady. There is no heavy steam, so many guests find it easier to breathe than in a wet banya. It is a good choice if you like a hot sauna but want a quieter, more relaxing session.
Salt and your health: the honest version
You may read that salt rooms help with breathing or skin. Research on "halotherapy" is still limited, and the salt blocks in a dry sauna are not a medical treatment. What we can promise is a beautiful, peaceful room and good, dry heat.
Tips for your visit
- Start with 10–15 minutes, then take a break and drink water.
- Sit on a towel; we provide towels, robes and flip-flops.
- Don't lick the walls — tempting, we know!
- If you have health concerns, check with your doctor first.
Combine it
Try the salt sauna, then the Russian banya or infrared room, and finish with a massage (30 minutes $60, 60 minutes $80).
